Financial Literacy
Financial resources are often inaccessible, especially for Black LGBTQIA+ populations. We partner with local financial advisors and organizations to bring financial literacy workshops and equip our community with tangible resources for better understanding their financial health. In the past we have partnered with Financial Haus San Diego to bring workshops around cash flow management, budgeting skills, real estate and investments. We aim to bring financial education to our community to set up Black LGBTQIA+ populations up for success!
Self Defense
Safety is essential for every community and it’s especially crucial for ours. As much as San Diego Black Pride is dedicated to bringing joyful spaces, we’re equally committed to empowering our community with skills for self sufficiency. We have done this by offering a series of beginner’s self defense classes that offer a mix of self defense techniques as well as strategies to de-escalate unsafe situations. We have previously partnered with Sagaz Jiu Jitsu to bring this experience to our community
Sexual Health and Wellness
The Black LGBTQIA+ is disproportionately impacted by sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. We recognize this is driven by systemic racism, medical mistrust, and structural barriers that limit access to culturally competent sexual healthcare and education. At San Diego Black Pride we work to provide opportunities around sexual health and wellness by partnering with local organizations such as ViiV Healthcare and Impulse to bring education and resources to our community. We also host workshops in which our community can be equipped with the education and resources around their own sexual health and wellness and battling the stigmas that surround our community.
Harm Reduction & Sober Spaces
We recognize the importance of the global harm reduction movement especially in regards to the ways in which substance abuse has impacted LGBTQIA+ communities of color. We believe that it’s crucial to have options and create space for all members of our community to be safe and have a sense of belonging. We do this through educational opportunities and partnering with organizations like the Collective Coalition to bring awareness on the impacts of substance abuse to the Black LGBTQIA+ community as well as create intentional spaces for sober individuals.
