At San Diego Black Pride, we are dedicated to developing resource, services, and experiences that address community needs and drive meaningful social change throughout San Diego County. Our core values are fostering socioeconomic mobility, improving access to gender-affirming care, and creating inclusive spaces for networking and community-building. Through these resources we aim to empower Black LGBTQ+ individuals and reduce systemic disparities:
Black Trans Emergency Fund
Established in 2020, the Trans Emergency Fund provides crucial one-time emergency cash grants to support transgender individuals facing urgent and vulnerable circumstances. These grants are designed to meet basic and essential needs during challenging times, ensuring immediate relief when it is most needed. The assistance covers critical areas such as housing stability, transportation needs, and access to gender-affirming care, offering a lifeline for individuals navigating unforeseen hardships.
Damon J. Shearer Scholarship Fund
Established in 2020, the Damon J. Shearer Scholarship Fund supports the educational aspirations of Black Queer students enrolled in college programs throughout San Diego County. To date, we have awarded over $20,000 in scholarships, empowering students to achieve academic excellence.
Sexual Health Testing
At our signature events, such as our annual Black Pride Festival, we partner with local providers to provide testing at each experience, alongside a representative for a healthcare system to provide vital information around sexual health awareness. Thank to our partnerships, over 200 attendees have taken steps toward understanding their wellness.
